Artistic creations using native plants and natural materials

Spring is Sprung, April 2022

Beautiful warm wet and windy weather here west of the Missouri and south of the Niobrara brings plants above ground for the first time this season. These pictures show plants growing in stolen Native American land that belongs to and was a sacred place for the UMÓⁿHOⁿ (Omaha), Pawnee, Oto, Misouria, Lakota and other Native American tribes. This salt creek valley can support a great diversity of species, some of which my helpers and I planted last fall. Check them out. We were a little worried that the dry winter with no snow cover might hurt these first year plugs, but these resilient and harty Native plants are growing strong this Spring. About 420 of the 480 plants we planted last year are up and growing now.

Thank you Nathan Duffy at Midwest Native Nursery for growing these plants! Go buy his plants! http://www.midwestnativesnursery.com/
